While watching CNN’s coverage of the Republican National Convention I was struck by an answer former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani gave when asked about the disparity between the experience level of the nominees on each of the two party’s tickets. He response was basically ” we (the GOP) got it right. We have the person with less experience backing the one with more, which is more favorable than the other way around.”
Certainly a case canĀ be made for his rationale. Having Sarah Palin behind the more astute John McCain is the very essence of the mentoring system. Ostensibly she can learn on-the-job by watching someone with much more history in politics. She will simply act as the protege.
There is undeniable logic in this position and in Giuliani’s contention: the more experienced person (John McCain, as opposed to Barack Obama) is in charge while the less-experienced one (Palin) has the ancillary and backup role. Seems like reasonably sound thinking.
However..
